In 2004, Ana Robinson discovered that many ingredients common in mainstream US skincare can be absorbed through the skin, and many are banned in the European Union. Unable to find anything truly effective and non-toxic, she began hand-blending her own formula using cold-pressed sesame oil, an Ayurvedic staple with centuries of skin science behind it.

In 2016, a customer with tattooed skin changed everything. Her ink looked different: healthier, more vibrant. Ana became obsessed with understanding tattooed skin specifically. Kavai was born in 2017: not a tattoo trend product, but the most skin-intelligent oil for people with tattoos.
