The Kiwi Glow Story: 20 Years of Obsession With Clean Skincare

This is the story of how frustration became obsession, and obsession became a brand.

It's a story about refusing to compromise. About remembering how good your skin can feel. About building something that lasts.

The Beginning: A Book That Changed Everything

Twenty years ago, I read "The Consumer's Guide to Cosmetic Ingredients."

It was supposed to be a simple skincare book. Instead, it was a horror story.

The more I read, the more I realized what I'd been unknowingly putting on my skin my entire life. Parabens. Phthalates. Synthetic fragrances hiding dozens of undisclosed chemicals. Petroleum derivatives. Formaldehyde donors. Fillers that pad ingredient lists but don't feed the skin.

And the worst part? Most skincare brands didn't even know what they were using. They outsourced. They bought mediocre ingredients that had already been damaged by harsh processing. They prioritized shelf life and profit margins over skin health.

I couldn't unsee it. And I couldn't compromise.

The Memory That Started It All

But the book wasn't the only spark.

Years earlier, in my early 20s, I was backpacking through India. One day, I had an Ayurveda treatment I'll never forget.

Tepid sesame oil. A humidity chamber. The feeling of being completely immersed, nourished, alive. Then the circular massage. Then the removal. And afterward—this feeling of deep, luxurious wellness that radiated from my skin and body.

I was young. My skin was naturally good. But that feeling? That depth of nourishment? I never forgot it.

Twenty years later, after reading that book, I realized: I wanted to recreate that feeling. But for real. For everyone. For life.

The Obsession Begins

So I went down a rabbit hole.

I became obsessed with sesame oil. Not just using it—understanding it. Understanding why cold-pressed matters. Understanding what happens to oil when it's overheated or processed with chemicals. Understanding the curing process.

I taught myself. Spent months, then years, learning the traditional curing method—the specific application of heat and movement that removes moisture from raw oil while preserving the nutrient profile. Most manufacturers get this wrong. They prioritize shelf stability over bioavailability.

But I refused to accept that trade-off.

The Decision: No Outsourcing. Ever.

That's when I made the commitment that defined everything: I would never outsource.

Every step. Every batch. In-house. Controlled. Intentional.

I still do the curing process myself. Every single batch. Because when you're the one doing the work, there's nowhere to hide. No compromise. No mediocrity.

Most handmade brands fail because they don't address the core issue: ingredient quality and control. I built Kiwi Glow to solve that problem completely.

From Hobby to Accidental Business

What started as a frustration-turned-obsession became a hobby. And then, somehow, it became a business.

Customers kept coming back. They told me how the oils made their skin feel—that same luxurious, nourished feeling I remembered from India. That deep sense of wellness.

And they couldn't find that feeling anywhere else.

So I kept making it. Kept refusing to outsource. Kept curing every batch myself.

The Three Products: One Philosophy, Three Applications

Over time, Kiwi Glow became three products—but they all share the same foundation and the same obsession with quality.

Verde Body Oil — The original. Cold-pressed sesame oil + citrus + cardamom. For your body. For that luxurious feeling.

Rosie Face Oil — Cold-pressed sesame oil + rosehip + clary sage + rose. Optimized for facial skin. For that glow.

Kavai Tattoo Oil — Cold-pressed sesame oil + vetiver + plant-based citrus fragrance. Created for tattooed skin. For vibrancy that lasts.

Same sesame foundation. Same commitment to zero compromise. Different purposes. Same obsession.

Why We Do What We Do

At Kiwi Glow, every choice reflects that original obsession:

No Outsourcing — Every bottle is prepared in-house, by me, with intention and precision. No bulk oil. No mediocre ingredients. No compromises.

Cold-Pressed Always — Raw sesame oil, extracted with pressure alone. No heat. No chemicals. No damage to the nutrient profile.

In-House Curing — The traditional method. Heat + movement. Removes moisture while preserving linoleic acid, antioxidants, all the compounds that make sesame oil work.

Simple Formulations — Every ingredient serves a function. Nothing is decorative. Nothing is filler. If it doesn't feed your skin, it doesn't go in.

Transparency — What goes on your skin should be as clean as what goes into your body. Period.

The Pillars of Our Philosophy

If you want to understand why Kiwi Glow exists, these three principles explain it:

What Goes On Your Skin Goes In Your Body — Your skin absorbs 60% of what you apply. Over years, chemicals accumulate. Clean skincare isn't a trend. It's intelligence.

Why Toxic Ingredients Matter — Parabens. Phthalates. Synthetic fragrance. Formaldehyde donors. These aren't accidents. They're choices made by brands. We chose differently.

The Power of Cold-Pressed Sesame Oil — Preparation matters as much as the ingredient. How an oil is made determines how it performs. We refuse shortcuts.

Read these if you want to understand the thinking behind Kiwi Glow.

Certified. Committed. Growing.

Leaping Bunny Certified — No animal testing at any stage. Verified to Cruelty Free International's global standard.

WOSB Certified by the SBA — Women-Owned Small Business. Built and operated by a woman who manages every step.

Growing Sesame by 2028 — Complete vertical integration. When I'm growing the sesame, pressing it, and curing it myself, there's nowhere to hide. No compromise. No mediocrity. No outsourcing.

That's the Kiwi Glow standard. That's the commitment.

Why This Matters

Twenty years ago, I couldn't find a skincare product that met my standards.

So I built one.

Then I kept building. Kept refusing to outsource. Kept curing every batch myself. Kept remembering that feeling from India—that deep, luxurious sense of nourishment.

The reason Kiwi Glow exists is simple: because I couldn't compromise on my own skin, and I couldn't compromise on yours.

Every bottle is a reflection of that refusal.

Ready to Feel the Difference?

If you've been looking for skincare that's built on integrity instead of marketing, that prioritizes your skin health over profit margins, that actually delivers the feeling of true nourishment—

Explore Kiwi Glow.

Start with Verde for body, Rosie for face, or Kavai if you have tattoos.

Give it two weeks. Pay attention to how your skin feels. Notice the difference when an oil is actually prepared with intention.

Then ask yourself: why would I ever go back?

Because once you feel what your skin is actually capable of—when it's properly nourished—everything else feels like a compromise.

And at Kiwi Glow, we don't do compromise.
